Water Oak came in
swinging with some good bats, scoring 3 runs.
Good defense was played on both sides, but a number of
Water Oak’s outfield and infield players were very good! They also had great runners! But, Royal Highlands was able to also start
with good bats, scoring 5 runs in their first at bats, with another 5 the next
inning, with four of those coming from homeruns by Barrett Avery, and Tom Pellegrino.
Though Water Oak came up short in the win column, they certainly played
well.
Key highlights from Royal Highlands
D6A – Lokation Real Estate:
Overall there was some really good defensive
plays and hitting from all the players, with Andy Labrasca
pitching a great game. In addition, our
runners did an outstanding job of getting safely around the bases to score,
especially “speedy” Gary Hammer again, but others also hustled like Mike
Carrao, Craig Freeman, Kenny Cashmore, Barrett Avery, Mary Schrad,
and Joe Julliano, as well as Danny LaVerde. Other Key Highlights: Mike Carrao 3/3, 3 RBIs, 3 runs, triple;
Warren Lindner 3/3, 2 RBIs, 2 runs; Andy Labrasca

Key Highlights fromWater

the outfield and infield. They played
with good sportsmanship. Other Key Highlights: Mike Rebulet 1/3, 1

A very close game
all the way through, with Royal Highlands pulling it out in the bottom of the 8th
inning with four key hits by Mary Schrad, Barrett
Avery, Joe Juiiliano, and Danny LaVerde
driving in the 3 runs needed to win the game.
The game was so well matched, that the winner would more than likely be
whoever had last bats. Thanks to all for
an exciting game that was well played!!
Key highlights from Royal Highlands #6
– Lokation Real Estate:
Some good defense by all and good pitching, by Andy Labrasca,
helped. In addition, the two double plays were key too….our
shortstop, Willie Adams, put out one at second, then threw the ball to our
great first baseman Mary Schrad. The second one though was a major key to the
win, as it happened in the top of the eighth.
Our pitcher, Andy Labrasca, tossed the ball to
second, covered by our rover, Barrett Avery, who in turn threw to first base to
take out the batter for two outs. Other Highlights: Willie Adams 3/4, 2 runs, 1 RBI; Mary Schrad 3/4, 1 run, 1 RBI, Barrett Avery 3/4, 2 runs, 2
RBIs; Joe Juiliano 3/4, 3 runs, 1 RBI, Craig Freeman

Both teams gave their best at today’s game. Though Royal Highlands won the game,
Stonecrest was coming on strong near the end, but good defense in the last
couple of innings positioned Royal Highlands to win.
Contributions were made by the entire team, but
here are some highlights: Danny LaVerde was 3/3 with 3 RBIs; Gary Hammer was 3/4, had 3
runs, and a Triple in the 2nd inning; Willie Adams was 2/4 with 2
RBIs, but played some great defense in addition to making a double play; Warren
Linder was 3/4, with 2 RBIs;
Joe Juiliano &
Craig Freeman were 2/3 and also with 3 RBIs; Mary Shrad
3/4, 2 RBIs, and made a double play; Mike Carrao had a double, with 3 runs and a RBI; Barrett Avery was 3/4, and also played good defense;
Duane Dagostino had 2 RBIs; Paul Acton was 2/2 with 1
RBI; Andy Labrasca & Kenny Cashmore was 2/4.
Stonecrest was gracious in its loss, and I found
the scorekeepers really nice to work with…thanks! Here are some of their highlights: Dick Willette (#19) hit a double in the 1st
inning with 1 RBI; Jim Nuccetelli (#38)
hit a triple in the 6th inning with 2 RBIs; Jeff Hart (#37)
made a nice catch for the out in the 6th inning; Charlie Matthews
(#75) made a double play in the 7th by tagging out the runner coming
to second base, then throwing to first; John Wood (#21) made a nice catch in
the 7th; Anthony Barone (#11) made an unassisted double play in the

Good sportsmanship was evident, and both teams
played hard. They also had a beautiful
day, though a little cool, but sunny.
Royal Highlands led in hits with 30, one of our biggest totals, with
Holiday RV having 21, also pretty good.
The entire Royal Highlands team contributed to
our win. But some key highlights include
Barrett Avery with solid defense at the rover position, along with a hot bat
and running. Also
Mary Shrad, who hadn’t yet played this season, did
really well at her 2 turns as rover, helping to close the game out. Willie Adams also had a great defensive day
playing short stop with many key saves….seems like he
was everywhere…way to go Willie! Andy Labrasca
pitched a great game, with no walks, along with some good bats.
But it was a game won on a great team
effort. Including all players: Joe Juiliano 4/4,1 RBI,
3 runs + 2 doubles; Mike Carrao 4/4, 2 RBIs, 2 runs; Barrett Avery 3/4, 3 runs,
1 RBI; Danny LaVerde 3/3, 2 RBIs, 3 runs; Paul Acton
3/3, 1 RBI, 1 run; Craig Freeman 2/4, 2 RBIs,1 run; Ken Cashmore 2/4, 3 RBIs, 2 runs; Mary Shrad 2/4, 2 RBIs; Gary Hammer 1/4 , 3 RBIs, 1 run + 1
double; Andy Labrasca 2/2, 3 RBIs, 2 runs + 1 double
and 1 triple; Warren Linder 1/3, 1 RBI, 3 runs; Duane Dagostino
1/3, 1 RBI, 1 run; Willie Adams 1/3, 1 RBI, 1 run.
The Holiday RV team stayed positive and kept
the game fairly close until the last few innings,
where not only Royal Highlands outscored them, but had some great defensive
plays. Player highlights include: Chet Arthur
4/4, scoring 3 runs; Tony Derrico was 3/3 with 1
being an infield, grand slam homerun, 3 runs, 5 RBIs; Steve Orchard 3/3; Freddy
Mays 2/2, 1 run; Jim Montcalm 2/41 run; Dave Walter 2/4m 2 runs; Dick Reed 1/4,
1 run; Tom Tennyson 1/4; Merritt Palmer 1/3; Bobby Warner, Dave Peters, and Ray

Final Score: Legacy – 18; Royal Highlands - 15
The Legacy team played
a good defensive game, along with a couple of double plays, which kept Royal
Highlands from potentially scoring a few runs in a couple of the innings. A number of players hit doubles including Pat
Casillo, Jack Horsley, Rus Bilyeu, Lou Altomari, and Marvin Roggenburk,
some of which are credited with RBIs, with Rus leading the pack with 5,
followed by Jack with 3, and Marvin with 2.
Almost all of the other players contributed at least one RBI each to
help them win the game. It was a team
effort.
Though Royal
Highlands led in hits – 24 to Legacy’s 18 – the defensive plays of Legacy kept
them from scoring on some of those hits.
But, because of their positive attitude, they kept the game close,
coming back to score 6 runs in the last two innings, though not enough to go
ahead of Legacy. Overall, it too was a
team effort, and they will shake off his loss, and look forward to their next
game.

Comment: The weather was perfect for the season opener! Both
teams were in high spirits knowing the season had finally started. And,
both teams finally were able to see how all the pre-season practices panned
out. Most noticeably, the Pennbrooke players were very nice, seemed to
enjoy themselves, and were very gracious in their loss. We look forward
to playing them again.
