Hawthorne 17-  Heritage Corp. (Spruce Creek South) 12.

In a hard fought battle, Hawthorne was able to pull away late for the victory, and  secure first place for the division.

Leading the way with three hits each for Hawthorne were Jim Herbert, Jeff Geesey and Roddy Blackburn while Bill Bibler pitched a complete game 22 hitter for the victory.

For Heritage Corp., Pete Morden had four infield hits, with Pug Welch, Bruce Beatty and Mark Witt reaching the grass with three hits each in a losing effort. Bruce Beatty in his first pitching start of the season was hammered for the loss. Immediately after the game a silver alert was posted for regular pitcher Tony Harris.

 

FINAL SCORE: Pennbrooke "Oakwood Smokehouse"- 22  Plantation "Phillips Toyota" - 12

Plantation jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the 1st inning on 5 hits & 2 BB, led by "Manager of the Year" Mac Cheney's bases loaded Triple and 89 Y.O. Max Hansel's solid 1B hit to walk off with the ad.  Pennenbrooke responded with 3 runs on Everett Powell's DBL & Jeff Rose's base hit.  Pennbrooke broke out with 5 runs in the 3rd and 5 runs in the 6th & 7th innings to take Home the victory.  Plantation was led by John Taylor with 3/4 & Dennis Lepold with 3/3.  Mac Cheney was 2/4 with a TPL & 3 RBI's; Rich Dulniak 2/2; Mike Salmon 2/3; & Don Hallock 2/4.  Pennbrooke was led by Jeff Rose 4/4 & 5 RBI's; Brad Carpenter, 3/3 & 3 Run John Smith, 3/4 & 3 RBI's; Everett Powell, 2/3 3 Runs & 4 RBI's; Ron Tardio 2?2 2 Runs & 3 RBI's; Anthony Joseph 2/4 2Runs & RBI; Tom Peterson 2/3 & 2 RBI's.  Winning pitcher Joe Grumski got the complete game "W" in his "last hurrah" as a pitcher, ending a stellar career at 81 Y.O.!!  Congratulations to Joe Grumski from the Plantation team!!

 

HV 17, Del Webb 16,

In a had fought game Del Webb pulled up just short of tying the game in the 8th inning.  For HV, Bud Harburn 4/4 with a double, Ray Wnuck 4/5,

Larry Harmeyer 3/4 with a triple and a double, Dave Westbrook and Dick Reed also 3/4, Bill Costley, Pat Funch, Roger Dotson, and Ed Radtke all had 2 hits each.

For Del Webb  Marty Goldman lead the way with a perfect day 3 walks and 2 hits, followed by Maryann Bubelnik 2 walks and 2 hits, Jim Hazen 1 walk 3 hits, Bob Gardner 3 hits, Buck Strain, bob Wright, Berni Schvinch, Bill crafts all had 2 hits each,
